On the Road 2 Retire

Don & MB plan to leave home and travel full-time to save for retirement.

About Us

“Our greatest desire has been to be able to spend our retirement traveling. We thought we’d have to save for retirement to travel. In fact, it’s just the opposite.  We’re going to travel to save for retirement.”

Hi!  We are Mary Beth and Don and we are preparing for a grand adventure.

I’m 51 and Don is 64 and we’ve managed to get to our ripe ages without saving for retirement.  Ouch.  That’s a little more than scary.  After thinking outside-the-box for a while and putting pencil to paper, we accidentally discovered that moving out of our house and traveling full-time would allow us to save for the times when we get (really) old.

But don’t you know, we’re going to have a s**t load of fun along the way. WooHoo!

Our Journey

Who knows where we will end up, but here we go.

An Improvised Christmas

Christmas is about love, compassion, relationships, and shared time. (And sometimes a little improvisation).

Finding Humanity while Purging the Garage

It was Saturday and we had started the garage clean out. “Clean out” makes me think of enemas and colonoscopies and the metaphor seems appropriate for this experience.

Casita Travel Trailer Tour – The Independence

We are just getting started in this process, so clearly, there is a LOT of work (and learning) to do, but we're happy to finally give our friends a quick tour of our current setup and new home away from home.

It Did What Last Night?

We know.  Rookie mistake.  Because... uh... we're rookies.  Our first trip out in our Casita culminated on the last morning with no water in the Casita.  Quickly,

It’s Casita Day!

In the pre-morning darkness packing a phone camera, a lame dash camera, and a sense of humor, we drove to Rice, Texas to pick up our new travel trailer.

Our First RV Expo = Exhaustion

We played hookie from work to visit our first RV expo, hoping to learn what we like and want to live in an RV full time. It was EXHAUSTING!

Make Money with Airbnb

You can host visitors at your home - either your whole home or even a room in your home. You'd be surprised how much additional income it will generate.

What the Heck is “Boondocking?”

Boondocking is essentially camping without hookups. You may also hear it referred to as ‘dry camping’. Often, dry camping means staying in a campground without hookups, whereas, boondocking typically means staying in a completely undeveloped area.

You’re Going to Do What?

Gosh golly!  Here is our first post.  I thought it would be easiest to make a quick video about who we are and why we are going on this great adventure.
